Android Market tops 10 billion downloads, offering 10 apps for 10p for next 10 days to celebrate

What's the magic number?

Android Market tops 10 billion downloads, offering 10 apps for 10p for next 10 days to celebrate
In time-honoured tradition – for Apple at least – Google has chosen to mark the passing of a major downloads milestone on Android Market with a promotion designed to push yet more titles at consumers.

Starting immediately, 10 apps a day for the next 10 days will see their price drop to 10p on this side of the Atlantic, or 10c if you reside in the US.

A perfect 10

The first apps to take advantage of the promo include Minecraft: Full Pocket Edition, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD, Fieldrunners HD and Great Little War Game.

No details have yet been given on the apps that will follow.

For the record, it's taken Android Market just over three years and one month to top 10 billion downloads. In comparison, Apple's App Store reached the same number back in January – two years and six months after it launched.

As such, Android Market has an average monthly download total of around 270 million, with the App Store's figure coming in at more than 333 million - though it's likely Android's considerably larger userbase has drawn the two platforms' respective totals far closer in recent months.
