Following a period of outage that led to studios aplenty expressing their rage across social networks, Apple has revealed its Developer Portal has been the victim of a security breach.
The company has emailed developers to inform them that an "intruder" had "attempt to secure personal information of our registered developers" last Thursday, resulting in the portal's downtime.
Though Apple claims the attacker was unable to access encrypted information, app code or the servers where app information is stored, it admitted some personal data such as developers' names, mailing addresses and email addresses - "may have been accessed".
Rebuilding
"In the spirit of transparency, we want to inform you of the issue," detailed Apple in the email.
"We took the site down immediately on Thursday and have been working around the clock since then.
"In order to prevent a security threat like this from happening again, we're completely overhauling our developer systems, updating our server software, and rebuilding our entire database."
Though not mentioned in the email, Apple's Developer Portal also plays host to API documentation and Apple's developer forums. Customer information, however, is not stored on the portal.
"If your program membership was set to expire during this period, it has been extended and your app will remain on the App Store," added Apple.
"If you have any other concerns about your account, please contact us."
