Lenovo rumoured to be readying Windows 8 tablet for October debut

Chinese firm looking to be first

Lenovo rumoured to be readying Windows 8 tablet for October debut
Lenovo is looking to be the first manufacturer to launch a Windows 8 tablet.

An unnamed source has told The Verge that the Chinese OEM is preparing a device ready for an October debut – the date when Lenovo expects Microsoft to roll out its latest OS.

Windows race

The tablet itself remains under wraps, though speculation suggests the 13.3-inch Lenovo IdeaPad unveiled at CES 2012 – which features a 360 degree hinge to allow for laptop configuration – could well be the device in question.

The news comes after Nokia design chief Marko Ahtisaari confirmed the Finnish manufacturer was working on a Windows 8 device, while rival Dell has told Bloomberg it will also have a tablet ready for day one.

Other OEMs in the running to launch Windows 8 tablets include HP and Asus.
