Ouya heading to Mad Catz' M.O.J.O. microconsole

System sees priced slashed to sub $200

Ouya heading to Mad Catz' M.O.J.O. microconsole

Building on its recently announced plans to branch out to rival hardware, Ouya has unveiled plans to bring its Android-based platform to Mad Catz' M.O.J.O. microconsole.

The move will be combined with a price cut for M.O.J.O., bringing the system – launched back in December last year – down to a price point of $199.99 in the US.

Mad Catz claims "similar price adjustments" will take place in other major territories, with all existing and upcoming Ouya content making the leap to M.O.J.O. this spring.

Unlocking the future

"Up until now, the game console experience has been locked inside a box," said Ouya founder and CEO Julie Uhrman.

"Together with the hardware veterans at Mad Catz, we end that. Today’s announcement signifies the inception of a truly open platform where independent developers can bring their creations to the platforms where gamers actually play: everywhere."

The move is certainly logical enough. While Ouya's Tadhg Kelly recently claimed the company has "sold more units than people think", the device – and microconsoles as a whole – has failed to set the world alight as many commentators predicted pre-release.

Like Ouya, Mad Catz system runs Android, meaning bringing the two systems together should be fairly stress free, though M.O.J.O.'s price cut suggests it too has struggled to find an audience.

Ouya's intent is to spread its platform across multiple devices moving forward in order to build a more sizeable userbase.

That suggests further deals such as the Mad Catz one can be expected in the future, though commentators and developers alike will be keeping a keen eye on Ouya's progress following its high-profile pivot.
