Food Basket Hat purchase provides real world meal

PerBlue and PlayMob continue charitable push with IAP-based Thanksgiving campaign in Parallel Kingdom
In September, US developer PerBlue linked up with charity IAP outfit PlayMob to enable players of its Parallel Kingdom mobile MMOG to donate to SOS Children's Kenyan famine appeal.

It was successful with 2,508 meals vouchers, worth over $4,500, being donated via in-game purchases of the special Soup Can Hats.

So, with US Thanksgiving season upon us, the two companies have hooked up again, this time for the HELP USA organisation, via what PerBlue is calling its Give Thanks campaign.

Running until 24 November, Parallel Kingdom players will be able to buy two Food Basket Hats.

This gives your in-game avatar a limited edition hat, and more importantly, each purchase will result in a cash donation to HELP USA, which works to combat homelessness and hunger in America.

In terms of the different hats, the red Food Basket Hat can be bought for 750 Food (around $6), and will provide one Thanksgiving meal for a homeless child. The gold Food Basket Hat costs 6,000 Food (around $40), and provides a meal for a family.

"The game offers a simple and straight-forward opportunity to do good, and Parallel Kingdom players have proven to be philanthropic and eager to make a difference," said Justin Beck, PerBlue's CEO and co-founder.

"Though we are a small business, we understand that, with our players behind us, we can provide a significant amount of help for families facing hunger during the holiday season."
