One of the best casual games companies, as well as being one of the best mobile companies, it's little surprise that PopCap was the only company to have more than one game featuring on Apple's top selling lists of 2010.
Plants vs. Zombies ended up on three lists while Bejeweled 2 + Blitz was on two.
Lining up the gems
A bit more informative for us beancounting types however is the news that, according to Forbes' Oliver Chiang, the company had total sales of around $100 million in 2010, 30 percent of which came from its mobile business.
It's hardly precise, but does give a reasonable view of how the company's numbers are developing. In September, it said around a quarter of its revenues came from mobile.
App Store and beyond
One reason for the increase would be its recent success on Apple's App Store, although as well as iOS, PopCap sells Java and Brew games via its distribution deal with EA Mobile, and released Bejeweled Live for Windows Phone 7. It's also planning to launch its first Android games soon.
PopCap's CEO Dave Roberts also told Chiang the company is considering a floatation on a US stock exchange in the second half of 2011.
"There are no investors pushing for it, so we will really only look at it if the markets align," he says, of the process, which would make sense in terms of the presumed IPO plans of much larger social publishers such as Zynga this year.
