Although mobile and web content company RealNetworks saw its music sales rise by 16 per cent, and noticed a small 3 per cent increase in its games business, it just posted a net loss of $12.1 million after shares dropped by 10 cents.
Its revenue fell by 5 per cent to $140.8 million from last year, which the company blames on an expensive ongoing legal battle with the Motion Picture Association of America over its RealDVD software, and says that without currency fluctuations its revenue would actually have risen by 1 per cent.
Its Rhapsody digital music service is being considered a continuing success despite the recorded losses, with 800,000 users now being measured against 200,000 a year ago.
