UK game studios to increase workforces

75 per cent expect to be taking on new staff this year

UK game studios to increase workforces
A recent Tiga survey reveals that 75 per cent of the UK’s software studios are expecting their business to pick up over the next six months, and plan to recruit more staff as the industry regains some of its lost economic momentum.

The survey questioned 32 of Tiga’s 150 members, though most of the positive comments were apparently from small to medium sized business - presumably thanks to the slew of new distribution opportunities offered by the likes of the iPhone’s App Store, Android Market, Blackberry App World and even the DSiWare and PSP Store.

Nine per cent still expected to be seeing extra layoffs in the next six months, though none said it was anticipating businesses would get ‘significantly worse’.

If Tiga’s pressure on the UK government to meet the tax breaks offered by the likes of Canada and Central Europe are met favourably, the UK games industry could be on the cusp of turning its fortunes around once again.

Yes. Spanner's his real name. And, yes, he's heard that joke before.
