Epic by nature?

Quest for gold: Did Angry Birds Epic find fortune on the App Store?

Of all of mobile's mighty IP, Angry Birds is undoubtedly the brand that keeps on giving - both on app stores and, more than likely, on the shelves of your local store - and Rovio hasn't been resting on its laurels since the original game graced the App Store back in 2009.

Indeed, the Finnish firm has fired those loveable birds into space, stuck them behind the wheel of some high speed go-karts, and, most recently, sent them on an Epic adventure to save Piggy Island.

Of course, there's no denying the versatility of Rovio's poultry, but will the journey into RPG territory prove a step to far, or can the birds prove their worth all over again? We find out in this week's Charticle.

Epic win?

Angry Birds Epic has been performing admirably on the US top grossing charts for iPhone and iPad.

The game broke into the top 100 on both devices with relative ease, and now looks comfortable in a mid-table position.

Even though an assault on the top 10 looks out of the question, Rovio's RPG looks set to stick around for a while, and peak positions of #23 on iPhone and #27 on iPad prove the game has some clout.

The game's showing on the European top grossing charts - which looks at Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the UK - is practically a mirror image of its US effort.

Once again, Angry Birds Epic looks comfortable hovering around the mid-table mark, and even though the game did make a bigger push for the top 10, peaking at #16 on iPhone and #13 on iPad, that assault now looks all but over.

The game's life on the iPad charts is also noticeably more erratic than its iPhone counterpart, which was extremely consistent until very recently.

Overall though, Angry Birds Epic is looking very strong in Europe, and Rovio must be pleased with its performance across all five major regions.

Everyone knows that the biggest test every Western game faces is finding a foothold in the East, and Angry Birds Epic seems to be relishing that challenge.

On the Asian top grossing charts - which hone in on China, Japan, and South Korea - the game is looking sharp.

It has managed to find friends in South Korea and China, peaking at #11 and #23 in both regions on iPad, despite falling flat on its face in Japan on both devices.

While the game's time inside of the Asian top 100 looks to have come and gone, a strong opening month in the East is no easy feat.
