As part of Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2016, Alexey Izvalov, Developer Relations at FGL, gave a talk on how to make your mobile game a success without a publisher.
He started by outlining what it is that publishers give to developers, explaining that they can offer better marketing in a saturated market, and can use their contacts to get games featured.
Players don't care
However, Izvalov also pointed out that publishers take away some of your revenue, as well as the fame. While your name will still be attached to the game, Izvalov says "the players don't care".
As for what developers need to do, he looked at various case studies of indie games, all of which had original gameplay ideas and interesting graphics to set them apart from the other games on the market.
