Although Index Ventures missed out on Supercell’s Series A round, founding partner Neil Rimer was keen to be involved in the B round.
“People are always the most important thing for a company, and that’s not just the employees. That’s the investors too,” said Ilkka Paananen, on why it agreed to the investment.
“Quickly we realised we could work well with him.”

As for Rimer, he wanted to invest in a games company, not in a couple of games.
“I wanted to invest from the first meeting, but I needed to convince my partners,” he said.
“The culture of having independent cells that make games, holding the games to the same high quality bar, and celebrating failures with champagne, that impressed us.”
Paananen took the theme further.
“The real entrepreneur heroes are the ones who haven’t been successful, but keep working for success,” he pondered.
