Is HTML5 gaming making a comeback?
Since its brutal beat-down by game developers like Wooga and Glu Mobile, true believers in the cross-platform technology have been keeping the faith.
And we've seen some small shoots of success too.
US/Spanish HTML5 gaming platform Ludei recently raised $1.5 million to accelerate its vision, with CEO Eneko Knorr telling us "in the next months we'll see Tier 1 publishers launch their HTML5 games, and that's going to be the tipping point".
Not so inky
US developer Arkadium gets the vision too.
It's just announced the launch of its casual white-label gaming platform, Arkadium Arena.
Already live with partners such as Chicago Tribune, CNN and the LA Times, it enables gameplay across web, smartphones and tablets.
Of course, as well as providing games, Arkadium points to the platform's secondary impact for those websites in terms of increased page views, time-on-site metrics and advertising revenues.
Partners can also take advantage of in-game advertising, sponsorships and branded game experiences.
"Hundreds of millions of people are playing games on a wide range of platforms and devices and we want each gaming experience, no matter where it's happening, to provide an engaging and powerful extension of our partners' brand," said Neal Sinno, Arkadium's SVP of casual and mobile games.
"The addition of HTML5 games to the Arena makes this a reality."
