GungHo Online’s Princess Punt Sweets passes 8 million downloads in Japan

GungHo Online Entertainment has announced that its second most popular smartphone game, Princess Punt Sweets, has passed eight million downloads this week in Japan.

Although far in the shadow of Puzzle & Dragon’s 25 million Japanese players, the success of Princess Punt Sweets proves GungHo is far from being a one-hit wonder in mobile.

At current, Princess Punt Sweets is only available on the Japanese and Korean App Stores and there has been no official word on a western localisation.

Excuuuse me, Princess

Given the success of its Angry Birds-esque predecessor Princess Punt - which has amassed over 2.5 million downloads - it would seem that the western market is receptive to what Princess Punt has to offer.

Recently, GungHo brought characters from Princess Punt to the western version of Puzzle & Dragons as part of a collaboration between its titles - so it might be a bit premature to rule out an English version of Princess Punt Sweets at the moment.

Yet curiously, Princess Punt herself was left out of the English collaboration while she was present in the Japanese tie-in. This omission might suggest that GungHo isn’t looking to build a western brand around the feisty royal just yet.
