French media outfit Ankama acquires Wizcorp for its HTML5 expertise

French media group Ankama has announced it's bought Japanese social mobile game developer Wizcorp.

The terms of the deal weren't revealed.

Ankama said that while the deal would help its expansion plans in the Japanese market, equally important was Wizcorp's technology in terms of HTML5 game-making and operations.

Wizcorp has expertise in server-side technologies such as its Node.js game engine as well as industry standards such as JavaScript, WebGL, Unity and HTML5.

Ankama's well know web and mobile games include Krosmoz, Dofus and Wakfu.

Better together

"Wizcorp's expertise in mobile gaming, and more specifically in the use of HTML5 for making such games, will help us increase our knowledge in this field quickly and efficiently," said Camille Chafer, Ankama's co-founder and CTO.

"Wizcorp will play a key role in supporting the development of our different engines and software, and they will of course help us increase our development capabilities. We are very excited to see Wizcorp become a new member of our family."
