Still wary of mobile gaming, Nintendo announces Mii mobile app

Nintendo has finally released details for its long-awaited mobile app - but despite a wealth of rumours, it's not a game after all.

Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata told Japan’s Nikkei Business Daily that contrary to its investors' hopes the company won’t be developing mobile versions of popular Nintendo games.

Instead, its latest foray into the smartphone landscape will be an app focused on importing Mii characters into social media.

Who's afraid of the big, bad game?

"It would be fun for players to use their Mii characters as icons on social media," he said.

“We are currently developing an application that will allow users to do that. The app will be announced around the time our full-year results are released.”

Which, in case you’re wondering, will probably be around May.

When questioned on the power of smartphones and tablets as gaming platforms Iwata said he was “wary” of falling industry prices, thus dashing any hopes fans had of seeing original Nintendo titles on mobile.
