Firefly Games raises $8 million to bring top Chinese games to US

There are already plenty of companies who are looking to bring games from high ARPU Asian countries.

And now we have another company to add to that list.

Previously the US president of Chinese publisher ZQGame Michael Zhang has set up LA-based Firefly Games to bring the best of China to the US.

The publisher is now up and running thanks to a Series A funding round of $8 million.

It expects to release four games in 2015, with Rising Heroes set to be its first release.

The investment was led by SkyOcean International Holdings (HKG:0593), Ceyuan Ventures and GuangZhou WinHi.

All systems go

"We plan to bring a revolutionary approach to the way games are released that goes far beyond the standard localization currently seen in the App Stores." said Zhang.

"Furthermore, we will also develop a business intelligence vertical within our company to evaluate highly granular data points and continually improve our live operations."

Firefly will use the funding new titles, start its own internal game development and make strategic investments.

As well as its LA-headquarters, Firefly has an office in Shanghai, with staff recruited from the likes of Funzio, Zynga, Nexon, Riot Games, FunPlus, Gamevil and Ubisoft.
