In a surprise announcement, Japanese giants Nintendo and DeNA have agreed a strategic alliance.

The move, which will see DeNA taking a 1.24 percent stake in Nintendo and Nintendo taking a 10 percent stake in DeNA, will finally bring Nintendo game characters to mobile devices.

The companies say they will work together to develop and operate new original games based on Nintendo's iconic IP.

This service will launch in the fall of 2015, while information on upcoming games and availability will be forthcoming.
