IBM on the benefits of cloud infrastucture in games

As part of Pocket Gamer Connects Bangalore 2015, Saravanan Muniswamy, DGM – SoftLayer Cloud Architect at IBM, gave a talk on implementing cloud infrastructure in games.

Cloud infrastructure has numerous benefits for games, including freeing up storage space on devices, which Muniswamy says makes "access a bit easier and more efficient."

Silver linings

It also allows for caching of data, which will "reduce the bandwith and increase data access" of a game or app.

And it provides the benefit of increasing access speeds globally, as a game that would otherwise have servers on the other side of the world to the user can use cloud servers to deliver their content.
