GMO Cloud acquires exclusive rights to Marmalade SDK and plans further development

Japan-based GMO Cloud has acquired the exclusive rights to Marmalade Technologies' Marmalade SDK for an undisclosed sum.

The cloud infrastructure firm had previously acted as a reseller of the development platform in Japan after striking a deal in July 2015.

GMO Cloud now owns the rights in full and will continue to distribute the platform worldwide. It will also continue development on the platform to add new features and capabilities.

Compelling content

"We are very excited about GMO managing the development and distribution of the Marmalade SDK to enable our customers to continue building compelling content with the high performance and flexible C++ framework that the Marmalade SDK delivers," said Bruce Beckloff, CEO of Marmalade.

Marmalade had previously announced that it was ceasing development on its platform in September 2016. The last release of the platform was expected in March 2017.

The developer had planned to offer a perpetual license for use after it stopped working on the platform, but it's unlikely this offer will remain with GMO Cloud now taking the helm.
