Bengaluru-based mobile game developer Hypernova Interactive has raised a seed round of an undisclosed sum to help continue development of its games.

As reported by the India Times, funding was provided entirely by early-stage investor Kae Investments. It is the first time the investment firm has provided funds to a video game developer.

Hypernova Interactive was established in 2015 by Mayur Bhimjiyani and Huzaifa Arab. Bhimjiyani was a designer at Zynga, acting as lead designer on FarmVille and CastleVille, while Arab was a principal games designer at messenger firm Hike.

The studio has so far released two games, Space Titans and War Tanks. The latter has achieved 350,000 downloads and was a featured game in the US on the App Store and Google Play.

Explosive growth

"With the advent of mobile phones, the gaming industry has seen explosive growth in the past few years. We are focused on building top gaming experiences for global audiences as well," said Bhimjiyani.

"We believe that mobile games, especially those that capitalise on multiplayer and esports, is a large and rapidly growing market," added Shubhankar Bhattacharya, venture partner at Kae Capital.

"We believe the Hypernova team matches up to the standards set by top global gaming companies, both in their execution capabilities, and their overall vision."
