MMORPG specialist diversifies portfolio

Webzen moves into social casino gaming with Hit the 5 Casino - Free Slots

Famed for creating fleshed-out MMORPGs for both PC and mobile, Webzen has announced that it will soon be dipping its toe into social casino gaming with the upcoming launch of Hit the 5 Casino – Free Slots.

Expected to be released in the first half of this year, Hit the 5 Casino is intended for audiences aged 21 and over and aims to offer players a simulation of an actual Vegas casino experience.

As the title suggests, the game will feature an array of in-game slot machines and, despite being targeted at a mature audience, doesn't risk any actual monetary loss.

Hit the slots

The announcement of Hit the 5 Casino – Free Slots comes soon after the release of several online sports titles from Webzen late last year, indicating a change of focus on how the Korean publisher will target Western audiences.

The firm looks to continue with its portfolio of fantasy-based RPG titles, but the move could mark the start of an interesting trend in how Asian companies tackle the very different Western market.

Elsewhere Webzen still has big plans in store for growing its most famous IPs with new artistic ventures, including recently staging an exhibition showcasing art from the highly popular MU series, as well as starting a collaboration with Italian fashion brand Tokidoki.
