EA Casual Entertainment boss resigns

Changes afoot, although impact on EA Mobile unclear
EA Casual Entertainment boss resigns

EA Casual Entertainment boss Kathy Vrabeck has resigned, according to a story on GameDaily that's been confirmed by EA itself.

Vrabeck has apparently resigned to take up another role outside EA, and the executive chairs are being reshuffled as a result.

The biggest change is that the Casual label (which includes EA Mobile) is merging with The Sims label to create one unified division, headed up by The Sims label boss Rod Humble.

The article has more details of other executive changes, but EA Mobile isn't mentioned at all. We assume senior VP and general manager of EA Mobile Barry Cottle is still in charge.

"With Kathy's departure, EA is reorganizing to integrate casual games - development and marketing - into other divisions of our business," a spokesperson tells GameDaily.

"We are merging our Casual Studios, Hasbro partnership, and Casual marketing organization with The Sims Label to be a new Sims and Casual Label, where there is a deep compatibility in the product design, marketing and demographics."

EA Mobile has had a successful 2008, announcing last week Q3 revenues of $47 million - up 24 per cent year-on-year.

However, EA also recently announced plans to layoff 600 staff across the entire company, and it's not known yet how or if these cuts will affect its mobile division.
