Rovio brings back former VP of Ads from Unity and hires new Senior VP of Studios

Rovio has snapped up two new senior appointments as part of its efforts to continue growing its games business.

The Angry Birds publisher has brought back Jarkko Rajamäki as its Vice President of Ads, a position he previously held at the company from 2010 to 2013.

In the interim, Rajamäki worked at Burstly, Apple and most recently at Unity where he led the tech firm’s ads business.

At Rovio, he will be responsible for running the games unit’s ads business and will be based in San Francisco.

Level up

Antti Viitanen meanwhile has been recruited as Senior Vice President of Studios, and will begin his new job at Rovio from the start of 2017. He joins from Habbo Hotel developer Sulake, and has been in the games industry for some 25 years.

Viitanen will be responsible for Rovio’s global studio strategy with the company’s studio heads reporting to him.

“Antti and Jarkko are rock stars in the mobile games industry and they will play critical roles at Rovio as we carry out ambitious plans to level up our business,” said Wilhelm Taht, Head of Games at Rovio.

“I wish them both a warm welcome.”
