Nokia to evolve Ovi Store rather than replace it

New features to be rolled out gradually
Nokia to evolve Ovi Store rather than replace it

Nokia's Ovi Store had seen enough woes that a complete 2.0 reboot was expected to appear this Spring, but according to Mobile-Ent that might no longer be the case.

It seems Nokia's head of content and media Gerard Grech has intimated that a gradual build up of new features is more likely than a new framework.

"We've already seen massive improvements in terms of user experience, and based on publisher feedback we'll continue iterating the platform," Grech explains. "You'll see some excellent new features coming out over this year, especially for certain of our key devices. It's much more evolutionary."

Certainly the Ovi Store needs some work to bring it up to the expected standard for mobile and smartphone app stores, but Nokia insists it's been listening to user feedback and that updates will allow it to make changes "in real-time" rather than "waiting months before making any changes".

Which is a reasonable point, so long as those real-time changes do start to appear soon.
