LG has taken steps to remedy the fact it's been lagging rivals such as Samsung when it comes to smartphones and tablets.
So while previous devices such as the Optimus 2X and Optimus Pad used Nvidia's Tegra platform and the Optimus 3D used TI's OMAP, it's now decided to get licences for ARM's cutting edge architectures for upcoming devices.

Specifically, LG has got its hands on the Cortex-A9 and Cortex-A15 multi-core CPU designs plus the Mali-T604 GPU. Also included is the CoreLink interconnect IP, which includes faster bus and memory.
"LG's relationship with ARM over a number of years has provided significant value to our overall business," said Boik Sohn, LG's VP and head of its System IC Center.
"This new licensing agreement will provide LG with the next generation processor technology that will allow us to maintain leadership in display enabled connected devices, such as smart digital TVs and smartphones, and drive our platform strategy."
LG is one of the first companies to license the Mali-T604, which is ARM's all-new architecture and provides much higher performance than even the Mali-400 chip, which powered the Samsung Galaxy S II.
