First Intel-powered Android smartphone XOLO X900 heading to India

PC processor giant Intel is announcing its next step into smartphone market with the XOLO X900 smartphone due to go on sale in India on 23 April.

Made in cooperation with Lava Mobile, the XOLO X900 boasts a 4.03-inch LCD screen, an 8-megapixel camera, 1GB of RAM, and 16 GB of onboard storage.

It will run Android Gingerbread (v2.3) at launch with an Ice Cream Sandwich update (V4.0) already in the works.

Intel's 1.6GHz Atom Z2460 processer will be the beating heart of this smartphone, promising both speedy performance and multitasking running HD video and high-end Android games seamlessly.

Its camera is also capable of capturing more than 10 shots a second. Meanwhile the battery life offers up to eight hours talk time, five hours of 3G browsing, and 45 hours of audio playback.

Intel says it's confident the battery life is on par "if not better" than the competition.

The XOLO X900 will launch at 22,000 rupees (around $425) exclusively with Croma, with more retailers to be announced in May.

It will be followed up by Lenovo's K800, another smartphone powered by Intel's Medfield architecture, due to reach Chinese markets in Q2.
