Tag heats up mobile games tools market with open source ChilliSource engine

Best known for its game development work with the like of BBC (Doctor Who), Ubisoft (Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes) and Mindy Candy (Moshi Monsters Village), Dundee studio Tag Games is now getting into the tools business.

Developed from its internal game engine, Tag launched ChilliSource at Pocket Gamer Connects London 2015.

Targetting cross-platform game development on iOS, Android, Kindle and Windows, ChilliSource is an open source project that will be free to use forever.

Over time, Tag plans to release more components, including metrics and analytics platform ChilliMetrics and connected user and game management system ChilliConnects, under the ChilliWorks labels.

Share in success

"ChilliSource was born out of a need for Tag Games to control all aspects of game development without reliance on vendor support," said CEO Paul Farley.

"At the time of conception, we search for open source offerings we could build upon and were frustrated that nothing suitable existed."

"It was always our intention to share our solution via open source and I'm so delighted that the time has now come to release the first version."
