Scopely partners with Hasbro to bring Yahtzee to mobile and Apple Watch

Popular boardgame goes wearable

Scopely partners with Hasbro to bring Yahtzee to mobile and Apple Watch

F2P mobile publisher Scopely has announced an official partnership with Yahtzee IP holder Hasbro to bring the board game to mobile and, interestingly, to Apple Watch.

The partnership ports Hasbro’s boardgame to mobile, and allows players to play the dice game against friends and other users online in daily and weekly tournaments.

Yahtzee with Buddies is now available to download for free on iOS and Android, with bonus rolls and other features available via IAPs.

Yahtzee with Buddies will also be released on Apple Watch. The smartwatch version of the app will help players manage their games in progress, and to stay on top of their in-game chats.

How exactly to develop games for wearable technology has been a key industry focus of late, and fully fledged studios devoted purely to titles in that vein have been springing up.

While devices like Apple Watch aren’t intended to fully replace smartphones, they can be used as an extension and therefore present developers with another interface to engage with players through.

This seems to be Hasbro and Scopely’s approach, using the Apple Watch as a way for players to check the progress of their game and scores.

“Scopely is the perfect choice to bring the classic Yahtzee experience to mobile,” said Mark Blecher, senior vice president of business development and digital gaming at Hasbro.

“They’ve proven themselves be experts at creating exciting social gaming experiences that bring friends and fans together to play for fun and in friendly competition.”
