Helsinki start-up Motorious Entertainment secures $566,000 to work on Top Gear mobile games

Helsinki-based start-up Motorious Entertainment has closed a $566,000 seed funding round.

The investment came from two unnamed Nordic investment companies. The money will be used to develop three free-to-play mobile games based on the Top Gear franchise for iOS and Android.

"The Top Gear brand is very familiar to me, and I understand the essence of the IP, which is about so much more than cars", said Jari Pauna, CEO and Creative Director of Motorious, and former Editor-in-Chief of the Finnish-language version of the TV show.

"Our investors were impressed with how we have developed a game series that fits so well with the world famous IP and with our cooperation with BBC Worldwide, which will grant us valuable access to promote the game in all of the BBC’s Top Gear channels."

The first title, currently called Top Gear the Road Trip, is set to be a match-3 puzzler with competitive elements and an abundance of references to the TV show.

The studio is also currently recruiting. You can find out more about its open positions on its website.
