Android Nougat adoption rate increases to 0.4% three months after release

Android's Nougat OS has now achieved an adoption rate of 0.4% in the three months since it launched.

It was first released in September 2016 on Nexus and Pixel. It achieved a 0.3% adoption rate in the first two months, which shows a slowing adoption trend of just 0.1% a month.

Motorola's Moto Z and Moto Z Force phones both now support Nougat. More devices are expected to add support in the coming months.

Movers and shakers

Android Lollipop 5.0 and 5.1 remains the most used OS with a combined adoption rate of 34%, down 0.1% on last month. Android Marshmallow 6.0 is now the second-most used OS at 26.3%.

Overall, earlier OS' are dropping in usage as users update their devices to newer versions. Android 2.2 Froyo still has an adoption rate of 0.1%, however.

These stats only track devices using Google Play, meaning many devices in China, Android Fire tablets, and devices using an operating system earlier than 2.2 are not included.
