Mobile Strike, Evony - The King's Return and World of Tanks get big money Super Bowl ads

MZ, Top Games and Wargaming all spent big to promote their games during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5th.

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events in the world with well over 100 million people tuning in to watch the game.

Big game advertising

Such is its popularity, advertisement during the match comes at a premium and costs nearly $5 million for a 30 second commercial.

Not unexpectedly, MZ splashed the cash on a new Mobile Strike ad starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, riffing on some of his most famous quotes and a scene from action flick Commando.

Newcomer Top Games made a surprise appearance during the Super Bowl with strategy game Evony – The King’s Return.

The 30-second skit starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is currently best known for his role as Negan in The Walking Dead and Aaron Eckhart, who played Two-Face in The Dark Knight.

The ad has already proved successful for the studio, which shot up the US App Store download rankings to 17th on Sunday. Its top grossing performance has yet to be greatly affected, however, and currently sits 152nd in the US, according to App Annie.

Wargaming also made a big splash during the Super Bowl, with some four commercials during the match all advertising its flagship title World of Tanks.

It's a big investment for Wargaming, which would have spent nearly $10 million in total on the 15-second ads.
