Industry veterans Shane McCafferty and Jim Squires have formed a new studio based in Canada called Rocketship Park.
The St. Catharines-based developer will be focused on creating "emotive experiences" for mobile. It will reveal more details on its first game, fast-pace puzzler Block Droppin', in the coming weeks.
McCafferty is a mobile developer known for his work on games such as Starseed: Origin, Crobble and Word Forward. He and writer Jim Squires, who has worked as a consultant, journalist and in press relations, have previously collaborated on word game Alpha Pit.
Emotions!
"When you're creating a game, you’re also creating an emotion within the player," said McCafferty. "All too often, that emotion is either an afterthought or abandoned completely in the design process.
"At Rocketship Park our process starts with the feeling we want to create, and that feeling informs every decision we make."
Squires added: "Being so close to Toronto, it's all too easy to feel like we're in the shadow of greater things. But that's nonsense.
"While we're proud to be a part of Toronto's extended gaming family, the St. Catharines / Niagara area is booming with great talent and we're honoured to stand alongside them."
