Final Unity 5 update gets Google Daydream, Nintendo Switch and Vulkan support

Unity has added support for platforms such as Google Cardboard, Daydream, Nintendo Switch and Facebook Gameroom in its latest update.

Unity 5.6 is the last release in the Unity 5 cycle before it moves onto 2017.

To the Metal

Key new features include Vulkan support for increased speed while reducing driver overhead and CPU workload, and the now freely available TextMesh Pro which supports advanced text rendering with dynamic visual text styling.

Various lighting improvements have been made with the Progressive Lightmapper preview, and Unity now also offers improved graphics performance with GPU Instancing and Compute Shaders for Metal.

Other updates include an upgraded Particle System, improved AI and pathfinding tools, new 2D tools and enhancements to the 2D toolset and better Performance Reporting.
