Color Switch becomes an eSport through partnership with Skillz

Wildly popular casual game Color Switch is entering the world of eSports through a collaboration with mobile eSports platform Skillz.

The partnership will bring eSports competitions to Color Switch's users, which has previously peaked at 100 million MAUs. This figure is said to rival that of PC MOBA League of Legends.

Color Switch continues to be a success over 16 months after it was first launched. It is approaching 200 million downloads and remains a top 25 downloaded game on iOS and Android.

An easy decision

"The proven ability of Skillz to generate 5x revenue for games like Color Switch made this an easy decision," said David Reichelt, founder of Color Switch.

"With the Skillz platform, we’ll turn Color Switch into a full-fledged eSport – giving both amateurs and professionals the opportunity to compete in the game they already love."

The game was originally developed by Reichelt in drag-and-drop game engine Buildbox. It was later picked up by Fortafy Games, which helped to monestise the game and push it to a wider audience.

Skillz has seen rapid growth of late, having reached a revenue run-rate of $100 million in May 2017. It also recently partnered with Capcom to bring an upcoming Street Fighter mobile game to the platform.
