Scopely pulls Breaking Bad: Empire Business from app stores after 19 months in soft-launch

Scopely has pulled its licensed strategy game Breaking Bad: Empire Business from app stores 19 months after it was first soft-launched.

Analytics firm App Annie stopped tracking the game on June 23rd 2017, suggesting that this is the date it was pulled. The game is still playable for those who still have it installed on their devices, but is no longer available for download from either the App Store or Google Play.

While developers do sometimes pull games from stores in soft-launch once they've reached a certain number of players, Empire Business' age suggests this may be a cancellation of the game entirely. We have reached out to Scopely for confirmation.

Getting out of the business

Breaking Bad: Empire Business was first soft-launched in November 2015 in Australia and Romania. Since then it has received 15 updates, though its last update was in March 2017.

Scopely has done plenty in that time, including raising $115 million in funding. It closed a $55 million Series B round in July 2016, and a $60 million Series C round in June 2017.

It even manged to release a new game, WWE: Champions, which was soft-launched for 13 months. The developer has also soft-launched a new licensed IP, Temple Run: Treasure Hunters.
