Pokemon GO players in Japan spent an average of $26 on IAPs in the game's first year

Pokemon GO players in Japan have spent an average of $26 in-game per download since launch, according to Sensor Tower.

In a blog post detailing player spend in Niantic's game, the firm studied the average spend per download by different countries from the game's launch on July 6th 2016 until July 6th 2017.

Japan came out on top, spending over three times as much as US players, whose average came in at $7.70. Canada was third at $7.60 per download, while Australia and Germany were fourth and fifth.

Big average, smaller audience

It's worth noting of course that Japan has a smaller population than the US, and so its overall revenues are also smaller. The US generated around $424 million in revenues through IAPs in Pokemon GO, compared to $318 million in Japan.

Regardless of its performance in individual markets, Pokemon GO has been incredibly successful. It surpassed 750 million downloads in June 2017 and was estimated to have hit $1 billion in revenues in February 2017.
