Jam City pushes into interactive fiction with soft-launched choose-your-own-adventure game Twist

Jam City appears to be entering the interactive fiction space with a newly soft-launched game Twist.

The game was first soft-launched on September 6th 2017 on Android. It is unclear which countries it is currently available in.

Twist is a choose-your-own-adventure-style game, in which players read through stories and make choices at given points to alter the course of the story. The genre has been made popular on mobile by games like Pocket Gems' Episode.

Page-turner

Jam City seems to have taken other inspiration from Pocket Gems' title, including its monetisation. Store screenshots show that certain choices will be locked behind a paywall, accessible only using premium currency.

However, the developer is also offering a subscription model to its game to allow unlimited access to all stories available. Subscriptions begin at $2.99 for a week up to $39.99 for an annual subscription.

The diversification effort comes after Jam City pushed back its planned IPO into 2019 following lacklustre performances from its recent games. Its older puzzle titles continue to do well, with Panda Pop having recently cleared 100 million downloads.
