Netmarble has partnered with Magic: The Gathering publisher Wizards of the Coast to develop a new mobile game based on the fantasy IP.

Currently titled Project M, the game will be a "real-time multiplayer battling game" in a similar vein to Netmarble's Marvel: Future Fight. Players will pick a Planeswalker, build a deck of creatures and spells, and fight others from around the world.

Wizards of the Coast will be working closely with Netmarble on the design and animations for the game. A launch date has yet to be announced, but it is expected to be released in 2018.

A kind of magic

Marvel: Future Fight made up 5% of Netmarble's $567 million revenues in its most recent quarter. The developer's biggest game is still Lineage 2 Revolution, which made up 39% of its revenues.

Wizards of the Coast has licensed Magic: The Gathering to other mobile game developers in the past. You can find out how D3 Go grew its game Magic: The Gathering Puzzle Quest in our interview with D3 Go senior director of digital operation Brian Etheridge.
