A report by Sensor Tower delves into the download rates of featured iOS games

Featured iOS apps can see up to 800% more downloads

Getting your app featured in the iOS App Store can lead to an 800 per cent increase in downloads, according to a recent report by Sensor Tower.

The mobile intelligence firm looked at apps featured on Apple’s app of the day and game of the day sections and cross-referenced the downloads to the week before.

The report looked as far back as September 2017 and found that an app recognised for game of the day saw a leap of 802 per cent in downloads, while app of the day downloads had a boost of 685 per cent.

Additionally, apps mentioned in Stories and Lists experienced a median download increase of around 200 per cent.

All inclusive

Sensor Tower’s report also found that Apple’s featured games were not limited to bigger name studios, with 29 per cent of featured apps having fewer than 10,000 downloads before being featured.

“Overall, our data shows that iOS 11 App Store features are delivering substantial benefits for developers who receive them,” said Sensor Tower mobile insights analyst Jonathan Briskman.

“While larger publishers have received the largest number of features, the truth is that Apple is featuring apps from all sizes of publishers. In addition, looking at the iOS 11 App Store features as a whole reveals that Apple is surfacing a wide variety of apps, not just the big names.”
