Virgin Media challenges devs to deliver 'next Angry Birds' in 100 days
Virgin Media has fired the starting pistol on a challenge to find the next big thing in mobile gaming, with developers charged with serving up a top title in 100 days.

Logically dubbed the 100 Day Game Project, the communications giant has partnered with Eurogamer and the University of Abertay Dundee to call for the "best emerging young games developers in the UK" to create the "new Angry Birds" by 27 May.

Game concepts submitted to the challenge will be judged by a panel of judges including Douglas Hare from Outplay Entertainment, David Hamilton from Digital Goldfish, Craig Lawson from Ubisoft Reflections and Tom Champion from Eurogamer.

The best entry will then be announced by Virgin Media in mid-June, with the winning team whisked off to Dundee to "work with mentors to turn their concept into a reality".

A fully functioning mobile game will be made ready for its debut showcase at the Eurogamer Expo at London's Earls Court in September.

"Throughout the 100 days, the teams will be assisted by mentors to aid them in the games’ development," detailed Virgin Media in a statement.

"The final stages of development and unique bolt-on level of the game will be completed in front of a live audience and unveiled exclusively at Eurogamer Expo 2012."

More details can be found on the 100 Day Game Project website.
