RIM has announced an update to the app pricing tiers used on the European BlackBerry World store ahead of the impending launch of BlackBerry 10.
Currently, BlackBerry World's lowest app pricing tier in the UK is £1.00. Once RIM's changes are implemented, the lowest tier in the UK will drop to 79p.
Countries that use the Euro will find that RIM's pricing tiers vary by country. In France, for example, the current lowest tier is currently 99c, but it's set to drop to 89c.
Competition
RIM claims that these changes have been implemented to "ensure prices are in line with currency fluctuations," and to make BlackBerry World's pricing more competitive.
It's worth noting, though, that despite the adjustment, BlackBerry World's lowest UK pricing tier is still higher than its equivalent on Apple's App Store.
RIM's announcement gives no indication of when these changes will take place, but notes that developers can adjust the pricing tier for their content within the BlackBerry World vendor portal at any time.
RIM is planning similar updates to other currencies, too, which should roll out "shortly after" the European changes go into effect.
