Chartboost aims to transform game discovery with launch of Video and InPlay

San Francisco-based cross-promotion network Charboost has unveiled two new features - Video and InPlay - designed to augment its native in-game mobile ad offerings.

Chartboost's new Video tool is billed as the industry's first free, games-only technology that's usable in Chartboost's Cross-Promotion and Direct Deals Marketplace.

Backed by high quality HD video, Charboost Video allows for smart targeting and ad optimisation and will give devs full control over the design and implementation of their Video campaigns.

Chartboost is launching this new service with Reward Video, which allows players to earn virtual currency or in-game items by viewing an offered video.

Chartboost's second new offering, InPlay, is described as a "high-touch" customisable layer that allows developers with an eye for design to create engaging, aesthetically pleasing promotional experiences for players.

These ads are displayed directly into their players' gameplay and will match the look and feel of a game for a seamless experience.

InPlay is not, however, for everyone as Chartboost notes that it's "specially designed ad format meant for studios with large creative teams,"

Still, it will offer all the usual Chartboost tweaks like Dashboard tracking and reporting and will allow for targeting and control for maximum eCPM (effective cost per thousand impressions).

Speaking on the new offerings, Chartboost CEO and co-founder Maria Alegre sees them as a natural extension of Chartboost’s early goals.

"We set out from day one to remove the 'black boxes' of mobile and believe the only way to build a successful business is if you have full transparency and control over your data," detailed Alegre.

"With Video and InPlay, we're taking the same approach we took with interstitials to empower game developers to grow their businesses through powerful and relevant experiences for players."

Chartboost Video and InPlay are available today in closed beta - and both products are available in the Chartboost SDK and can be easily integrated in under an hour.

Video is available for Cross-Promotion and Direct Deals Marketplace immediately, and will be available in the Game Ad Network soon. InPlay is available now across all Chartboost products.
