Bolstering social network's move on mobile

Facebook signs up Sencha's James Pearce as new head of developer relations
Citing mobile as the focus, Facebook has appointed James Pearce as its new head of developer relations.

Pearce – who previously held up a similar role at HTML5 and JavaScript framework specialist Sencha – has been sent on a six month "boot camp" before he sets out to strengthen the social network's standing in the mobile arena.

Facing Facebook

"Not much to say right now,but it's probably sufficient to say the company also has a few interesting ambitions in mobile," Pearce stated on his blog.

"It's not too much to say we’ve really led this year's growth of interest in mobile web applications, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript," he added, of his previously employers.

"So, thank you Sencha, for a brilliant experience. And hello Facebook: let's see what we can do."

Indeed, Pearce's appointment is timely, coming just weeks after Facebook unveiled HTML5 app support via its iOS native and web-based apps.

Speculation also suggests the firm is working with HTC to deliver a 'Facebook phone', though there's been no official comment.
