Finji to deliver 'what we want, how we want it'

Canabalt developer launches new indie studio in Austin

Say hello to Finji, a new Texas-based independent game studio formed by husband and wife team Adam and Rebekah Saltsman - seasoned industry veterans who have worked on titles such as Canabalt, FEZ, and Gravity Hook.

Finji will be an internally funded studio based in Austin, with Saltsman revealing that the firm has no plans to crowdsource, a stance he hopes will give Finji the creative freedom to create "what we want, how we want it".

The company already has plenty of projects in the pipeline, and is currently working with Shay Pierce from Deep Plaid Games on turn-based tactical survival game, Overland, while also developing Portico, a turn based labyrinth-defender.

On top of that, Finji will be distributing Night in the Woods, a new adventure game from Scott Benson and Alec Holowka.

It's all about the games

Speaking about his new venture, Saltsman explained that Finji's number one priority is to create the best games it can, and that it won't be bleeding consumers dry in order to maximise profits.

"At Finji our focus is on making new kinds of games with ethical business models," said Saltsman in a company blog post.

"People that choose to support our work by purchasing our games are not a resource to be mined.

"Our goal is to make the best games we can and price them in such a way that our audience can afford to buy them and we can afford to continue making games.

"Maximising revenue from our internal IP is not really a priority for us, since we can shore up shortfalls with short-term contract work."

What do you call someone who has an unhealthy obsession with video games and Sean Bean? That'd be a 'Chris Kerr'. Chris is one of those deluded souls who actually believes that one day Sean Bean will survive a movie. Poor guy.
