Flurry: Quarter of all new App Store projects are iPad bound
Though some developers are warning against their rivals jumping into bed with iPad all too eagerly, support for the platform appears to be mounting at an impressive rate.

According to analytics firm Flurry, iPad has quickly made itself a major player in the mobile development scene, accounting for 22 percent of all new projects started within the last 60 days.

That means it's already a more popular format with studios than Android, which itself had been expanding its share of the pie until iPad appeared on the scene.

According to Flurry's calculations, iPad projects currently account for a quarter of all new App Store titles, its share roughly a third of the size of iPhone's market leading total.

Three cheers

But while Apple is clearly the dominant force in app development right now, Flurry believes its figures give the whole industry something to celebrate.

"The total pie is growing significantly, month over month," says Flurry's Peter Farago on the company's blog.

"In March, over 3,000 unique applications were created within Flurry. A second point of interest is that Android's share of new project starts has decreased from 18 percent to 10 percent. However, it should not be concluded that Android developer support is on the decline.

"In fact, the opposite is true, as we count approximately 300 new Android projects in March, which represents a 50 percent increase over February."

Flurry claims the App Store's iPad section is already 2,000 apps strong, a day before launch. That puts BlackBerry App World's recent one year total in the shade, RIM revealing yesterday that the marketplace boasts more than 6,000 apps.
