Tearaway monopolises GDC Awards 2014 nominations

Media Molecule's Vita-exclusive platformer Tearawayhas dominated the nominations for this years GDC Awards, picking up five of the eight categories on offer.

Despite not setting tills ringing at quite the rate Sony had hoped, the critically-acclaimed release is up for Best Handheld/Mobile Game, the Innovation Award, Best Visual Art, Best Audio, and Best Technology.

also only just missed a nomination for the Game of the Year category, receiving an honourable mention instead.

Worlds apart

Elsewhere in the awards, Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has been nominated for Best Handheld/Mobile Game and Best Design, with the 3DS release too receiving an honourable mention for the Game of the Year category.

Meanwhile, Simogo's psychological text adventure DEVICE 6 continues its run of critical acclaim, being nominated for Best Handheld/Mobile Game as well as GDC's Innovation Award, all after having already picking up four Independent Games Festival Award nominations earlier this week.

The two other nominees for Best Handheld/Mobile Game category are Intelligent Systems’ Strategy RPG Fire Emblem: Awakening and Vlambeer’s iOS/Android hit, Ridiculous Fishing.

The 14th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards will be held alongside the 16th Annual Independent Games Festival Awards in San Francisco on the 19th of March as part of the Game Developers Conference.
