Glu lowers Q3 revenue expectations

Blames North American sales 'headwinds'

Glu lowers Q3 revenue expectations
Glu Mobile has announced that it expects to report third-quarter revenues "slightly below" the guidance it provided in August.

There'll be a knock-on effect on the company's Q3 earnings, too, which are due to be announced on 4th November. President and CEO Greg Ballard blamed sluggish sales in North America, but is optimistic about 2009.

"We continued to see headwinds in our North American sales driven by lower consumer spending and slower growth in new mobile handset sales," says Ballard.

"Despite these challenges, we are optimistic about the opportunities we see in 2009 and beyond, as the recent launch of the new iPhone, the debut of the Android platform and Nokia's N-Gage initiative have demonstrated the market's enthusiasm for new high-end platforms."

Glu has thus far been relatively cautious on these high-end platforms, releasing one game each for N-Gage and iPhone, while announcing plans for its first Android title. However, in 2009, the company plans to make these platforms a priority.

"We will bring the majority of our titles currently planned for launch in 2009 to high-end devices, such as the iPhone, N-Gage and Android, as we continue to support Java, BREW and existing smart phones," says Ballard.
