HTC ships 11 million smartphones in Q2 2011 as revenues hit $4.34 billion

Strong sales in US and Asia offset European slowdown

HTC ships 11 million smartphones in Q2 2011 as revenues hit $4.34 billion
Given the preview HTC afforded the press in May – when sales for the month alone surged to $1.42 billion – news that Q2 2011 revenues more than doubled to $4.34 billion is no great shock.

The Taiwanese firm was also able to meet its quarterly shipment target of 11 million units, thanks largely to strong pick up in both the US and Asia.

Going global

"If you look at the overall number, it's driven by the US, but if you look at the growth rate, the growth rate of Asia has been particularly high," CFO Winston Yung said.

Yung claimed the rise in sales across both regions was able to offset a comparative slowdown in Europe.

"We are very confident," he added.

"I think we have launched a few products which will drive momentum all over the world and have high expectations for Sensation."

Full Q2 2011 financials will be released on July 6, and will show a rise from Q1's revenues of $3.5 billion – itself up 174 percent year on year.
