HandyGames' Kassulke on its triple-A erotic management game Porn Tycoon

Refreshing the appetites iPhone can't fulfil

HandyGames' Kassulke on its triple-A erotic management game Porn Tycoon
Demonstrating one advantage over Apple's squeaky clean App Store, German publisher HandyGames has been rolling in the hay with the release of its latest sexy Java game, Porn Tycoon.

It follows on from its successful Porn Manager series, combining some marginally erotic material with bright, sprite graphics and mini-games such as a rhythm action pole stripping wiggler.

We caught up with CEO Christopher Kassulke to find out some more about this saucy business.

Pocket Gamer: Why do you think a game like Porn Tycoon will be successful?

Christopher Kassulke: We develop titles the audience wants to play. People may think it's just a stupid erotic game, but if they play it, they'll realise how cool this sort of tycoon game is, and that the topic is hot as well. Guess what? Those critics become our biggest fans.

Also, most erotic games are low budget but if you offer a triple-A title, it can be very successful.

How does it follow on from Porn Manager?

We released Porn Manager in 2006, and it demonstrated the huge demand from gamers all around the world for such titles.

If you play them, it shows we can have fun, as well as including a lot of humour.

Do you have problems with operators because it has the word porn in the title?

Not really. As soon as operators or partners play or see the game, they understand what it's about. The name is provocative, but the game doesn't have any nudity in it.

Not everyone wants to play the same racing, soccer or action adventure games. They want something fresh, different and unique. So if operators don't want to release games that consumers want to play, they'll end up losing their audience.

Finally, for companies having real problems with the title, we have more than enough non-erotic titles in our portfolio.

How successful has Porn Tycoon been?

It's only just been released, but it's already in several top 10 charts around the world. Porn Manager is still a top seller too so our expectations of Porn Tycoon are very high.

Will it ever be released for iPhone?

I guess you know the answer to that. Apple has some restrictions and we play by the rules.

Thanks to Christopher for his time
