Of those, $11.5 million came from its wireless value-added services (WVAS) division, which includes mobile games. The WVAS segment was up 4.2 per cent year-on-year.
The company posted a net loss of $9.2 million for the quarter. The results mean Hurray! generated revenues of $54 million for 2008 as a whole, down 10.9 per cent from 2007's $60.5 million.
Chairman and CEO Qindai Wang hopes 2009 will be better for the company thanks to the rollout of 3G networks in China. "We are enthusiastic about our focus on mobile entertainment strategy," he says.
"We believe that the introduction of 3G will make mobile music and mobile games and videos more attractive and much easier to use. We are focusing on developing more good mobile music, game and video services to catch the potential market growth in the 3G age."
Hurray! says that its Brotherhood of Soldiers game was the top download on China Mobile's game portal throughout Q4, and that the company plans to launch five new games in Q1 of this year.
